Upcoming Phones IN 2011

LG STAR
It looks like 2011 will be the year when smartphone specs will break many barriers. The rumored LG Star (aka Optimus 2X) is one such smartphone with a rumored 1GHz dual core processor (either Nvidia’s Tegra 2 or the ARM Cortex A9) and a 4-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 480x800 and color output of 16M colors. While leaked info claims that the Optimus 2X will be launching with Android 2.2 (Froyo), we won’t be surprised if it actually shows up with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Another thing that excites us about the 2X is its 8MP autofocus camera. Since LG phones have always impressed with their multimedia capabilities, it’s not hard to predict that the Optimus 2X’s camera will be very good. The LG is also supposed to have an HDMI port to output 720p videos and will most certainly support playback of XviD/DivX videos.

NOKIA E7
The Nokia E7 was announced back in September and for once we have plenty of information on it. If you are Symbian fan and want an alternative to the Nokia N8 with a focus on productivity over multimedia, then you should look forward to the E7. That doesn’t mean that the E7 skimps on multimedia features, in fact its specs sheet would put plenty of smartphones to shame. Specs such as a 4-inch AMOLED display, an 8MP camera (which is unfortunately fixed-focus like the C7) and HDMI out look really good. Add to that a huge four-row slide-out keyboard and Nokia’s traditionally excellent design and build quality and you have a contender in the E7 for one of the better smartphones to come out in 2011.
When it’s expected: Taking into consideration the time Nokia usually takes to launch a product after announcing it; the E7 should make its way into stores in January.

SUMSUNG GALAXY S2
The best Android smartphone in the market today will get a successor in 2011, if rumors are to be believed. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is supposed to have a 2GHz dual-core processor and a Near Field Communications (NFC) chip that will make it possible to use your phone as a credit card. The Galaxy S 2 will probably run on Android  2.3 and will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED 2 display, 1GB of RAM, 4GB ROM, 32GB of internal support along with support for microSD cards up to 32GB, an 8MP camera that can record 720p videos and Bluetooth 3.0 support. By all accounts, the Galaxy S 2 looks like it will give netbooks a run for their money and we like that.
When it’s expected: Samsung is expected to reveal the Galaxy S 2 at the Mobile World Congress in February.

Galaxy 551

The Galaxy 551 is an Android 2.2 (Froyo) smartphone with a slide-out four row QWERTY keyboard. It has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen that supports a resolution of 240x400 and a has a color output of 16M colors. The Galaxy supports Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS and is powered by a 667MHz processor. The Samsung also has 160MB of internal memory and supports microSD cards up to 32GB.
Flipkart has the Galaxy 551 listed at Rs. 12,799 with free home delivery and cash on delivery

Top 3 Phones of the year survey by tech2

Samsung Galaxy 3 – Best in Class Samsung once again takes top spot in our list with another Android powered device, the Galaxy 3. Although the argument has always been between the Galaxy 3 and Optimus One, however even sans Froyo out-of-the-box, the 2.1 running Galaxy 3 does come out on top due to its overall handling and multimedia prowess. In the last Mobile Grudge Match you, the readers, also helped make this decision a little easier as votes tallied up showed the Galaxy 3 with a miniscule lead over the Optimus.

Make way for the champ

LG Optimus One – First Runner Up
LG fans might not agree with this particular outcome of events but the truth is as good as the Optimus One is, Froyo and all, it still lacks a few things that the Galaxy 3 manages to do quite well. But the Optimus certainly gave other handsets in this league, including the Galaxy 3 a very serious run for their money, so it’s our number two choice for the best mid range smartphone on the market.

Missed by that much...

Nokia E5 – Second Runner Up
Nokias E series if device have enjoyed quite a bit favor from the mobile community in the last couple of years starting with the Nokia E71. The follow up model, the Nokia E72 and lower end contender the E63 also fared extremely well. This new edition in the E5 brings back the comfortable design and full QWERTY keypad with an all new home screen for the S60 platform. The fixed focus 5MP camera might be construed as a downside but there’s absolutely no beating the price it’s offered at and the handset’s overall functionality. Till the next mid-range E-series device with QWERTY keypad is announced, the E5 is going to make sure Nokia fans are not disappointed.

Simplicity and comfort of use

how is it easy to fool google goggle?

Here's the video and definitely let us know what you think in the comments section.

Android 2.4HoneyComb could be release?

Last week, we told you about Google's Andy Rubin showing off Google Maps and Honeycomb on a Motorola Tablet at the D: Dive into Mobile Conference. Since then, there has been absolutely no further word about release dates and the like. However, that seems to be changing, according to AndroidAndMe.
Will we be seeing you in February?

First of all, it doesn't look like Honeycomb's going to be labelled Android 3.0, like we all thought. It was the same case with Gingerbread, and it looks to be happening again. Instead, it'll be labeled 2.4 and will be released around the time of the Mobile World Congress in February. What this means is that we probably won't be seeing any Tegra 2 and Honeycomb powered Tablets, like the aforementioned Motorola and the Notion Ink Adam, release until after the event.

We'll probably get a closer look at Honeycomb at CES in a couple of weeks' time, what with Motorola and other tablet makers set to unveil their devices at the event. That is one of the reasons people believed Honeycomb to be 3.0, since it sports a brand new UI and multiple features aimed at tablet PCs. However, Google seems to be holding the 3.0 tag back for something more special, something that we might see around the time of the next Google I/O event.

Microsoft is searching for Good spell checker

According to their website, the goal of the Speller Challenge (the “Challenge”) is to build the best speller that proposes the most plausible spelling alternatives for each search query. Spellers are encouraged to take advantage of cloud computing and must be submitted to the Challenge in the form of REST-based Web Services”

In search of a better spell checker
Bing and Microsoft Research are enlisting the help of researchers and students from around the world to take part in the Speller Challenge. In a post made at the Bing community page, "We are all familiar with the experience of search engines providing results based on a common misspelling or typo,This technique, called Spelling alteration, is the predominant way for search engines to translate typing errors, alternative spellings, and synonyms with the goal of providing the best results to you on the first try. However, this approach is not perfect. My spelling error could be your perfect query. The Speller Challenge is looking for a better way to determine which results a search engine should provide and how alternatives should be represented."

The Winner will receive $10,000, while the runner-ups win $8,000, $6,000, $4,000 and $2,000 respectively. The submissions will open on the 17th of January, you can read the rules here.
