Motorola Defy

It has been awhile since we heard about this world's first durable Android phone, the Motorola Defy which was announced a couple of months back in US. The phone which is designed to withstand your constant careless handling comes shielded in a durable hardware body and a Gorilla Glass. Motorola promised that the phone is water-resistant, dust-proof and scratched proof. And for the OS, the Motorola Defy comes with Android 2.1 Eclair , which may disappoint many Android fans as most new Android phones including mid-range Android phones are now coming with at least Froyo. Further, the phone uses MOTOBLUR UI running over the Eclair.

The Motorola Defy as a phone comes with a 3.7-inch WVGA capactive screen, 800 MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 2GB onboard memory, WiFi (b/g/n), 3G (HSDPA and HSUPA), Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and GPS. The phone has a 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash and it records not HD but VGA video at 30fps. Apart from the usual audio and video playback, the Defy has Stereo FM radio as well. From the features and specs coupled with a durable hardware design, the Motorola Defy seems to be a good option for those who want a slightly powerful Android phone without shelling out too much money. And you can order the Motorola Defy from Flipkart for Rs.17,999.

India's Rs. 1600 Tablet - Sakshat

It’s been quite a while since we first saw the cheapest tablet in India. The tablet was supposed to come at a price of Rs. 1600 and the launch was due on the 15th of January. Well, the date has passed but there's news now that the tender to make these tablets, which was previously given to HCL has been cancelled.
But Govt and HCl officials didnt comment on it till now.

so NOW we have to Wait Again for This Tablet.

Notion Ink's Adam Rooted by some hackers

If you’re one of the early buyers of the Notion Ink Adam and are ready to try out something fun this weekend, try rooting it. Rooting a device means getting superuser privileges for it. Needless to say, if you do have important data stored, back it up and then root your device.

Is Android Market your 'root' cause?

Coming back to the story, the guys at NotionInkHacks have come out with procedures of how you’re supposed to root your Adam. There’s a Gingerbread keyboard that’s been added and they’ve also showed us apps like YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps and Google Places. One of the most interesting features added seems to be the Android Market.

Some tiny changes include a home switcher and Live Wallpapers, plus the frame buffer rate increases slightly, making traversing a bit smoother. The catch seems to be that using the new firmware won’t make you applicable for Notion Ink’s OTA updates. In the video below, you can see the guy demonstrating the features have been added to Adam and towards the end he’s also played a game on it.

If you're a die hard Android market fan and are cool with offline updates then be sure to give it a try.

Motorolla GLAM --dual SIM android phone

Dual SIM Android phones is non-existent in India right now but that will change soon if the report for the upcoming Motorola handset is correct. The Mobile Indian has reported that Motorola will be launching Dual SIM/Dual Band Android handset called as the Motorola Glam in India next week. The Motorola Glam aka XT800 was launched in Chinese market last year  and after a year only, we in India are going to see it for real if the report is true. Apart from the Dual-SIM support that works with CDMA and GSM network. we don't know if there is anything exciting about the XT800 though.

will sport a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen that has a 854 x 480 pixels resolution. The OS and the screen which is also reported to be the Gorilla Glass are good features for a mid-range Android phone, however, looking at what the X800 will offer under its hood, its disappointing. If the specs listed here are what Motorola will offer in the XT800, then we are not so excited about the phone. The XT800 is powered by 550MHz processor and it has a 258MB of RAM, however, GSM arena has listed the RAM as 512MB. There is a 5MP camera with dual-LED flash and it can record 720p HD video at 24fps. Besides the underpowered 550MHz processor the expected price which is around Rs 23k is less impressive again. However, these are unconfirmed reports and we strongly hope Motorola will bring the more powerful device to the market.

Blackberry messenger access to Indian Govt.

The Blackberry ban situation in India has seemingly reached an amicable solution, according to reports. Canadian mobile company RIM has finally heeded the Indian Government's demands and has provided access to users' Blackberry Messenger data.

Big Brother is watching you chat.

The dispute started way back in August, which means the issue has been drawn out for about 5 months now. The Indian Government had threatened to ban RIM, demanding e-mail and BlackBerry Messenger access if Blackberry had to continue competing in the Indian market. Once RIM replied with what was basically a "no entry" sign, stating it was impossible for even them to give India the encryption key, the Govn't flew into rage, setting a deadline for unencrypted access.

Now it looks like RIM actually delivered before the deadline - and a couple of weeks early to boot. The Government will now be able to monitor your Blackberry Messenger chats at any time, which is not a very pleasant feeling, but this precautionary measure might just save a lot of people's lives in the future.

RIM, in a customer update, had this to say. "The lawful access capability, now available to RIM's carrier partners meets the standard required by the government of India for all consumer messaging services offered in the Indian marketplace. We also wish to underscore, once again, that this enablement of lawful access does not extend to BlackBerry Enterprise Server(corporate email), which is essentially an enterprise VPN solution."

Rumours Suggest Notion Ink's Mystery Feature

Notion Ink has received a fairly warm response to its grand Adam debut. Rohan Shravan from Notion Ink has also revealed that  there is a mystery feature for the device. Many rumours suggest that the surprise is software updates every 2 weeks but CrunchGear, after an in-depth interview with Shravan himself, suggested that the tablet will come with a radio feature.
Notion Ink's Adam's got something else in store
Having radio on the tablet is interesting since the tablet is supposed to be a media consumption device and radio seems to be the forgotten logical option. What are your thoughts on radio on a tablet? Let us know in the comments section below.

It’s powered by a 1GHz nVidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, which will ensure it’s a lot faster than most of the tablets out in the market right now. It also features a 10.1-inch touchscreen at a resolution of 1280x800, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 5 megapixel rear-facing one that supports 720p video recording, 1080p FullHD video playback, an HDMI slot, Adobe Flash Player, 32GB of internal storage that can be upgraded via an SD card slot and much more. The device even boasts of an inbuilt gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, e-compass and adaptive lighting for various apps. Oh and did we mention it will have access to the 3D version of Google Maps, Google e-Books and the Android Market?

All of this promises to make the Motorola Xoom one of the most powerful and feature-packed tablets yet. Motorola haven’t announced the pricing yet, but it’s likely to be high considering all those awesome features. Regardless, it’s expected to be out as a 3G/Wi-Fi device by the end of March, with a 4G (LTE) version out in the second quarter of the year. This means the Xoomwill be the world’s first device to ship with Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
