FeaturesThe Nokia N8 definitely has an edge over the iPhone 4 in many ways when it comes to features. Its camera has a 1/1.83-inch sensor which is bigger than even what most compact digital cameras offer today. And the megapixel count is 12 against the 5 megapixel on the iPhone 4's camera. There are healthy list of settings like sensitivity, contrast, exposure and various scene modes apart from auto shooting mode while the iPhone 4 offers just auto with touch-focus. The Nokia N8 has Xenon flash which performs better than the iPhone 4's LED flash on most of our indoor portrait shots.
FocusingFocusing close-up shot is one problem with the N8 which is disappointing but we hope future firmware update will be able to fix this. The iPhone 4 in this regard did an impressive job in most shooting situations and focusing is done automatically even before the on-screen shutter-release button is pressed. And, the iPhone 4 offers touch-to-focus feature which gives more freedom while selecting subject to focus during composition. The Nokia N8 has a physical camera capture button which worked as half-press for focusing and full-press for shutter-release, but we think it wouldn't be too difficult for Nokia to include touch-focus feature as it already has a nice AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.
Conclusion
There is no denying that the iPhone 4 camera is a very capable camera phone for shooting vivid photos that looks pleasing and its simple touch-to-focus feature makes shooting a cakewalk. However, when it comes to overall image quality, the Nokia N8's camera is a much better shooter than the iPhone 4.
