Top 3 Phones of the year survey by tech2

Samsung Galaxy 3 – Best in Class Samsung once again takes top spot in our list with another Android powered device, the Galaxy 3. Although the argument has always been between the Galaxy 3 and Optimus One, however even sans Froyo out-of-the-box, the 2.1 running Galaxy 3 does come out on top due to its overall handling and multimedia prowess. In the last Mobile Grudge Match you, the readers, also helped make this decision a little easier as votes tallied up showed the Galaxy 3 with a miniscule lead over the Optimus.

Make way for the champ

LG Optimus One – First Runner Up
LG fans might not agree with this particular outcome of events but the truth is as good as the Optimus One is, Froyo and all, it still lacks a few things that the Galaxy 3 manages to do quite well. But the Optimus certainly gave other handsets in this league, including the Galaxy 3 a very serious run for their money, so it’s our number two choice for the best mid range smartphone on the market.

Missed by that much...

Nokia E5 – Second Runner Up
Nokias E series if device have enjoyed quite a bit favor from the mobile community in the last couple of years starting with the Nokia E71. The follow up model, the Nokia E72 and lower end contender the E63 also fared extremely well. This new edition in the E5 brings back the comfortable design and full QWERTY keypad with an all new home screen for the S60 platform. The fixed focus 5MP camera might be construed as a downside but there’s absolutely no beating the price it’s offered at and the handset’s overall functionality. Till the next mid-range E-series device with QWERTY keypad is announced, the E5 is going to make sure Nokia fans are not disappointed.

how is it easy to fool google goggle?

Here's the video and definitely let us know what you think in the comments section.

Android 2.4HoneyComb could be release?

Last week, we told you about Google's Andy Rubin showing off Google Maps and Honeycomb on a Motorola Tablet at the D: Dive into Mobile Conference. Since then, there has been absolutely no further word about release dates and the like. However, that seems to be changing, according to AndroidAndMe.
Will we be seeing you in February?

First of all, it doesn't look like Honeycomb's going to be labelled Android 3.0, like we all thought. It was the same case with Gingerbread, and it looks to be happening again. Instead, it'll be labeled 2.4 and will be released around the time of the Mobile World Congress in February. What this means is that we probably won't be seeing any Tegra 2 and Honeycomb powered Tablets, like the aforementioned Motorola and the Notion Ink Adam, release until after the event.

We'll probably get a closer look at Honeycomb at CES in a couple of weeks' time, what with Motorola and other tablet makers set to unveil their devices at the event. That is one of the reasons people believed Honeycomb to be 3.0, since it sports a brand new UI and multiple features aimed at tablet PCs. However, Google seems to be holding the 3.0 tag back for something more special, something that we might see around the time of the next Google I/O event.

Microsoft is searching for Good spell checker

According to their website, the goal of the Speller Challenge (the “Challenge”) is to build the best speller that proposes the most plausible spelling alternatives for each search query. Spellers are encouraged to take advantage of cloud computing and must be submitted to the Challenge in the form of REST-based Web Services”

In search of a better spell checker
Bing and Microsoft Research are enlisting the help of researchers and students from around the world to take part in the Speller Challenge. In a post made at the Bing community page, "We are all familiar with the experience of search engines providing results based on a common misspelling or typo,This technique, called Spelling alteration, is the predominant way for search engines to translate typing errors, alternative spellings, and synonyms with the goal of providing the best results to you on the first try. However, this approach is not perfect. My spelling error could be your perfect query. The Speller Challenge is looking for a better way to determine which results a search engine should provide and how alternatives should be represented."

The Winner will receive $10,000, while the runner-ups win $8,000, $6,000, $4,000 and $2,000 respectively. The submissions will open on the 17th of January, you can read the rules here.

Notion Ink's ADAM official video

There are quite a few reasons the Adam could be the “Tablet of 2011”, but all that was on paper without any official videos proving it. However, Notion Ink’s CEO Rohan Shravan released official videos to Android Police on 18th December, just like he promised in his blog post.
In the beginning of the video, they claim to represent a “real-world scenario” with multiple applications open. From what we can see, the UI looks very responsive, disregarding the slight lag, keeping in mind the fact that it’s doing many things at a time. One important point was that their UI, Eden, was running on Gingerbread but is supposedly "closer to Honeycomb than Android 2.3".

There are two videos and although the demos revolve around the same applications, the only difference is that the second was shot in daylight. Check out both and judge for yourselves, like they say, a video speaks a thousand words!

The first video

The second video puts the Adam in broad daylight.

Review: NOKIA C7

Although the design generally looks a tiny bit dated, the phone has a premium feel to it, courtesy of the nicely designed metal backplate which feels very cool to the touch. However, it does have the tendency to pick up dust and fingerprints, much like the front of the phone. Measuring just 10.5mm deep, the handset boasts a slender profile, while the 117.3 x 56.8mm dimensions mean that it is relatively compact, if a little on the long side. Weighing in at 130g, the phone isn't exactly a featherweight but this does make it feel reassuringly robust and you'll certainly notice if it falls out of your pocket - it'll probably survive the fall too.

The C7 is available in a choice of colours including Frosty metal (silver) and Mocha, while our review sample was of the Charcoal black variety. As we've already mentioned, the design looks a little dated when compared to the top-tier smartphones on the market, although the large screen surrounded by a reflective bezel looks fairly slick. Apart from the touchscreen, the front of the phone includes a small menu button under the screen along with Call and End Call keys. There's also a front-facing camera in the top-right hand corner.

The top edge of the handset is home to the power button, along with a 3.5mm port and a Micro-USB connector. On the left-hand edge you'll find the charger connector, while the right-hand edge reveals volume up/zoom in and volume down/zoom out keys, along with a voice key and the familiar Nokia lock switch. There's also a dedicated button for the camera mode.

The 3.5-inch AMOLED screen is well-sized and performs particularly well in brightly lit conditions, partly thanks to the AMOLED technology and partly because of the ambient light detector that automatically adjusts the backlight.

Thankfully, the handset has a capacitive touchscreen rather than the resistive technology found on older Nokia models. The C7 does enable you to pinch-zoom your way around the web, but we found this to be a little sluggish and not as responsive as we would have liked.

Although not the highest resolution in the market, the 640 x 360 pixels offered by the C7 do a perfectly reasonable job of rendering web graphics with vibrant colours. Edges can get a little blurry as you zoom in but generally text is clear and easy to read. Video quality isn't great - pictures tend to look quite pixelated and definition is almost completely lost on darker scenes.

The web browser is functional, if a little clunky and awkward to use. The infuriating alphanumeric keyboard doesn't help things along much either, although you do have the option of turning the phone round into a landscape position which offers up a QWERTY keyboard. However, the keyboard isn't especially easy to use as the buttons are quite small and they're also lined up squarely, rather than the slightly staggered layout that is usually used on QWERTY keyboards. Nokia also has one of the most annoying predictive text systems known to man - we'd advise turning it off.

The C7 has 8GB of built-in memory which, although not a huge amount, should be enough for most users. If you want to extend the memory capabilities of the phone then you can use a microSD card (up to 32GB), although this isn't supplied so you'll need to splash some more cash to get yourself fully kitted out.

The C7 features Nokia's Symbian 3 OS, which didn't impress us too much.
