Google Nexus s launched

Google showcased the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread update with the soon to be launched Nexus S. The previous Nexus handset that made it out was manufactured by HTC, and Google has gone with Samsung on this - the 'next gen' version. It features a curved display which, although unusual, should make it comfortable to view and hold.

It’s not surprising to note that the specifications are the same as that of Samsung Galaxy S. Here is a brief overview of the specs:

• 4-inch Super AMOLED Contour Display (curved glass screen), touchscreen with a 480 x 800 pixels
• 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
• GPS with A-GPS Support
• Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, USB2.0, NFC (Near Field Communication)
• 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 720p video recording, Secondary VGA (video calling)
• Noise cancellation
• 3.5mm handsfree socket
• 16GB iNAND flash memory

Although the phone comes with 16GB of internal storage, there has been no mention of expandable memory. The phone has a powerful 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and a three-axis gyroscope, which adds some flavor and provides a better gaming experience. As of now, we know that the Nexus S is only going to be available in the US via T-Mobile and Best Buy from 16 December and should reach in the UK on 20 December. There's been no word on it making it to other locations. The unlocked price is €650 (Rs. 38,900/-), which would obviously increase once it reaches Indian shores - if it reaches our shores at all. As you might remember, the Nexus One didn't quite make it here in full capacity. Let's hope it's different this time around, fingers crossed
