HCl unveils its 3 new Android Tablets

HCL Infosystems has introduced three new ME tablets that run Google Android 2.2 Froyo. These tablets include two 7-inch models and one 10-inch model. One thing unique about these ME tablets is that they will come with HCL Touch functionality that will connect the users to the local content and HCL custom service, all at a touch of a single button. These three new HCL ME tablets are expected to available all across India in the price range of Rs. 14,990 and Rs. 32,990.

New HCL ME tablets are aimed at different consumers - the ME AE7 is aimed at economy users, ME AM7 for the mainstream users and the ME AP10A. All new ME tablets run Google Android 2.2 Froyo update and it doesn't seem like all of them will get the Gingerbread update. Let's take a look at each tablet.

HCL ME AE7

This HCL ME tablet has a 7-inch touchscreen display that supports 800x480 pixel resolution. Packing a low power 800Mhz processor, the ME AE7 has 256MB DDR2 RAM, 2GB Flash memory and is capable of holding up to 8GB microSD cards. For making the best of location based services, HCL has added "high sensitivity GPS receiver". The tablet has a 0.3 megapixel camera in the front and has an internal mic with high quality speaker. Other features of this tablet include Gravity sensor, 3.5mm audio port, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth 2.0 and support for EVDO USB dongle. This ME tablet has 2400mAh Li-polymer battery which I presume will have a decent 5-6 hours battery life. The ME AE7 tablet is priced at Rs.14,990.

HCL ME AM7

HCL ME AM7 comes with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display and 1024x600 pixel resolution support. Under the hood, it packs unspecified high-performance 800Mhz processor with 512MB RAM and 8GB Flashmemory. This tablet can hold up to 16GB microSD card for additional storage. This tablet has a SIM card slot with support for 3G cellular networks. Other features of this tablet include a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera, light sensor, gravity acceleration sensor, AGPS, USB 2.0 port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and two high quality speakers. Packing a 4200mAh battery, this tablet would be available at a price of Rs. 25,790.

HCL ME AP10A

Top of the line (for HCL) tablet - ME AP10A, has 10-inch display supporting 1024x600 pixel resolution and capable of full 1080p HD playback. It houses as high-performance 1GHz processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB on-board storage. This tablet will support up to 32GB microSD card for additional storage. With a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera, we don't think it will give decent image quality. This 10-inch tablet has GPS for location based services along with other sensors like accelerometer and ambient light sensor. Other features of this tablet include Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), built-in 3G support, twin high-quality speaker and 3650mAh battery. This tablet will be available for Rs. 32,990.

All HCL ME tablets run Android 2.2 Froyo and have almost all standard features expected in a tablet. However, the price difference is going to be crucial for ME tablets to survive against the competition from Samsung Galaxy Tab and even Olive Pad tablet for that matter.

Color--Networking App for Android and iphone

Social networking just got snazzier. Entrepreneur Bill Nguyen has introduced what he calls a cellphone-based ocial network, called Color.

Bill Nguyen has a history of sorts. Having had his previous company usurped by Apple Inc. in 2009, Color is his ambitious venture. This free application will feature on Android and iPhones. Its mechanism allows people in the close vicinity to exchange media content like photos, text, videos etc. with multiple phones in an instant.

Will it or won't it?

Will it or won't it?

However, Nguyen aims to create a Post-PC experience like never before. Popular social networks like Facebook have people spending a great chunk of time sharing their media. So a platform like Color, Nguyen believes, will create a rage among the masses. The organization is spending in a good amount of their monetary resources on pooling in a strong database of individuals, and has for the same roped in DJ Patil, the Chief Scientist of Business, LinkedIn, as their Chief Data Officer.

It now remains to be seen if Color really gets there.

IPAD 2-First Impression

So that’s the new iPad. We love the design and we appreciate the spec bump that will make it competitive on paper, but we don’t think these will be the key to the iPad’s success, not today at least. No, we still think that the eco-system the iPad 2 lands in is more important. You have it all on tap - music, movies, books and the widest array of high quality apps, including games. It is a closed system, but it’s still in the lead. If we’re a little disappointed in the lack of change in the UI (yes notifications we are looking at you), we’re still convinced by the package overall.
Is it worth running out to replace your current iPad, that’s still relatively young? Not really. The change isn’t as significant as it was from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 with a strikingly different design and screen. But we know that people will run out and get the iPad 2 and those that have been holding off can now see exactly what is on offer. It may well be the case that 6-months down the line that dual core processor really gets to flex its muscles - much depends on how the app developers respond.
With prices expected to be the same as the previous models, and the premium Android tablets coming in a premium prices, the iPad 2 still looks like a pretty good deal.

SAMSUNG CHAT 335--A GOOD MID RANGE PHONE

it hasnt been too long since chat 35 launched in india but its design and connectivity is too good for mid range phone.

Design and Build Quality Not only has Samsung stuck to the standard QWERTY design, but they’ve also added to the look and feel of the phone.  The phone has a nice metallic frame which gives it a classic look. The QWERTY keypad has been laid out well with all the keys being easy to reach. The optical trackpad in the middle is very convenient to use, plus it is very responsive as well. The back cover has a unique design and lends to a good grip on the Chat 335.

Good looking and well designed...

There’s not more than the volume rocker on the left while there are two ports at the top for an audio jack and a mini-USB cable. I would have appreciated a small flap over the USB port which keeps it safe from dust. Otherwise, the Chat 335 has been designed very well with good build quality.

Interface
The operating system is Java-based and there’s nothing new in the interface but then again it’s quite easy to operate and there’s no sign of lagging while you operate the phone. In the settings there’s a ‘Smart Home’ option that lets you choose between four (actually two) different homescreen options. You can use the Smart Idle mode where there’s a quick launcher for various options like messaging, Facebook, Twitter and so on. The other three modes are normal, where the screen only displays the Digital clock. So in terms of interface, you might take a while to get used to the Smart Idle screen with the quick launcher, but after that it’s pretty easy to use.

easy to use interface

It’s not the newest feature out there but customizing your screen in terms of fonts and themes of your choice is a good addition nevertheless. So to sum it all, the interface is very good without any kind of snags that might irritate you at the end of the day.

Connectivity is great

One of the main features of the Samsung Chat 335 is supposed to be the kind of connectivity options it boasts of. There’s your regular EDGE and GPRS where it’s not difficult to surf the internet, and you won't face any problems with Social Networking either. A good feature has to be Wi-Fi. And talking about Wi-Fi, I was wondering why the option was hidden in applications while the fact is that it isn’t an application in the first place? I would rather prefer the Wi-Fi option to be in the settings or maybe the main menu itself. Anyhow, the Wi-Fi works very well and if you’re browsing the web through a high speed router, you’ll really love how easy it is to use this phone for various Internet based applications like checking your e-mail or Facebook. The Bluetooth works well and transferring files is quite fast.

When coming to the SNS integration like Facebook and Twitter, you’ll understand that it’s really easy to use these applications. Facebook did have its own format for updating users about their friends, but that as well is quite easy to use. There’s also the Yahoo and MSN instant messenger options so you have these at your disposal if you’re interested in chatting.

Media is not good
It will not take you long to realize that this phone is not really a good option for Media-loving users. You can’t expect much with a strictly average screen, but nevertheless the Chat 335 can amuse the user for about half an hour.

A few good... games

There’s audio support for MP3 and AAC+ and the video support includes playback for MP4 and H.264 formats. While audio is not the best feature of the Chat 335, the video is quite average. The FM Radio option is pretty good, but again it’s not the best that we’ve seen.

best price to buy is 4300-4800rs

gingerbread ROM leaked for galaxy S

According to Polish site Android.com.pl, the Gingerbread update is available for download. So it’s pretty obvious that we’re talking about a ROM here, which is said to be something around 250 MB in size. Sources also say that you need to have the i9000 model of the Galaxy S and if you’ve got another model you might have to wait a while longer. Of course it won’t take too long for hackers to come up with Gingerbread for your model!

For now that’s all we know about the updating adventures for the Galaxy S. As mentioned before, the update is still not official one. You can try and download the update, but do it at your own risk.
